Element451Integrations Guide

Workday API Calls

Updated Article

The Workday integration requires access to Workday web services so Element451 can create student applications in Workday and retrieve key Workday-generated values after the application is created.

Unlike some SIS integrations that rely only on REST APIs, the Workday integration uses both:

  • Workday REST API
  • Workday SOAP Web Services

The integration authenticates with Workday using OAuth credentials. The shared Workday API class requests an access token using the configured token URL, client ID, client secret, and refresh token, then uses that token as a Bearer token for Workday API requests.

Permission Requirements#

The Workday API credentials provided to Element451 must have access to the Workday services and operations used by the integration.

At minimum, access should be confirmed for:

  • Workday Admissions SOAP Web Service
  • Workday Student Core SOAP Web Service
  • Workday Student Core REST API
  • OAuth token access

If permissions are missing or incorrectly configured in Workday, API calls may fail even if the Element451 configuration is correct.
